Extra virgin olive is Italy’s second largest food product exported to the United States and has now developed an export value of 600 million dollars per year. This was the latest data revealed by Unaprol and the Olive Producing Consortium during the Vinitaly U.S. Tour recently held in Florida.
The olive oil sector on the American market is generally dominated by Mediterranean countries. Five countries control over 92% of the entire U.S. market: Italy (61.24%), Spain (17.44%), Tunisia (6.99%), Turkey (4.44%), and Greece (2.62%).
And the state of Florida became a key spot for Italian oil producers at the Vinitaly Tour that passed through it recently and during which the Portfoil catalogue was presented. Sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, the catalogue (published in English, French and Spanish) provides a list of the top 150 olive oil producers who have the capacity to export their tested and expert approved oil to the U.S..
