It’s once again time for the wine collection auction in Florence, at the Pandolfini Auction House, in collaboration with the publishing group L’Espresso and Pitti Immagine, for the presentation of the guide ” The Wines of Italy 2010 “ (along with “The restaurants of Italy“) on October 8th at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence.
Of the 190 lots being auctioned, the most important names of the Italian wine world stand out - Antinori Castello di Ama, Giacomo Conterno to Gaja. A rich and representative selection of wines comes from beyond the Alps, mainly Burgundy, a region which, in the recent past, has become very fashionable and is preparing to “overthrow” Bordeaux’s supremacy also in bottle collections.
Among the Italian labels, the most attractive, at least for the most extreme collectors are: 24 bottles of Tignanello Antinori 1993 (950/1050 euros) by far one of the most interesting vintages of this symbol of Italian wine; 6 bottles from L ‘Apparita Castello di Ama 1990 (1.000/1.200 euros); 5 bottles of Barolo Giacomo Conterno Monfortino 1990 (1.600/1.700 euros); 3 bottles of Masseto Tenuta dell’Ornellaia 1987-1989-1992 (1 bottle each vintage, base auction 600/700 euros); 6 bottles of Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido 1986-1989-1990 (2 bottles for each vintage, starting price 1000/1100 euros); Selection Bruno Giacosa 1985- 2 bottles of Barbaresco Santo Stefano Riserva -- 2 bottles of Barolo Riserva Falletto - 2 bottles of Barolo Rocche (1350/1450 euros); Selected Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Valentini: 2001-2000-1999-1995 - (3 bottles for each vintage, starting price 1500/1600 euros); Solaia Antinori 1994 to 2001 (1 bottle for each vintage, starting price 650/750 euros), Messorio The Macchiole 1999-2000-2001 (2 bottles for each vintage, starting price 800/900 euros). Giacosa Barolo Serralunga d’Alba 1996 (2200/2500 euros); 1 bottle of 3.78 gallons of Great Bussia Aldo Conterno Barolo Ris And the big sizes: 1 fifteen-liter bottle of Falletto Bruno erva Gran Bussia 1974 (200/300 euros); 1 double magnum of Gaja Barbaresco 1983 (200/300 euros), Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido 1998-2004 (1 magnum each year, starting price 550/650 euros); 2 magnums of Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia 1990 (600/700 euros).
Among the lots dedicated to French wines, there is great space dedicated to Burgundy, especially the whites of this historical territory. Ranging from the crus of the Domaine Boillot, Domaine Ramonet, Domaine Leflaive, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard to the fantastic wines of Domaine Coche Dury. Among the reds, of course, Romanée Conti, with a selection of vintage 2006: 1 bottle of Romanée Conti, 1 bottle of Montrachet, 1 bottle of La Tache, 3 bottles of Romanée St. Vivant, Richebourg 2 bottles, 2 bottles Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux 2 bottles (starting price 10.500/11.500 euros) and even a selection of Domaine Leroy 2005: 1 bottle of Chambertin Grand Cru, 1 bottle of Vosne-Romanée “Beaux Monts” Premier Cru, 1 bottle of Nuits St. Georges “Aux Boudots” Premier Cru (2700/2800 euros), Domaine Select Dugat-Py 2006: 2 bottles of Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, 2 bottles of Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes, 2 bottles of Gevrey Chambertin “Champeaux” Premier Cru, 1 bottle of Gevrey Chambertin “Petite Chapelle” Premier Cru (450/650 euros), and again, 1 bottle of Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine A. Rousseau in 2003 (800/900 euros), Selection Grand Cru Domaine G. Roumier 2003: 2 bottles of ”Bonnes-Mares” - 2 bottles of “Ruchottes-Chambertin” (700/800 euros).
For older vintages, the most notable are: Selection Grand Cru Domaine Leroy 1989- 3 bottles of Romanée Saint-Vivant, Richebourg 3 bottles of (2400/2600 euros); 1 bottle of La Tâche Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1996 (800/1000 euros): 1 bottle of Echezeaux Grand Cru 1992 Domaine Jayer Herry (500/800 euros); 3 bottles of Ruchottes-Chambertin “Clos des Ruchottes” Grand Cru Domaine A. Rousseau 1991 (400/450 euros); 2 bottles of Grand Cru Echezeaux Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1990 (1000/1200 euros); 1 bottle of La Tâche Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1990 (1600/2000 euros); 1 bottle La Tâche Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanée Conti 1988 (600/700 euros), 2 bottles of Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Domaine G. Roumier 1988 (300/400 euros); 1 bottle of Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Leroy in 1989 (600/900 euros); Selection Domaine Drouhin Musigny 1976- 6 bottles of Domaine Hudelot 1966 (400/800 euros); 1 bottle of Gevrey Chambertin “Les Cazetieres “Leroy Negoce 1945 (650/850 euros).
Among the French wines there is an especially large selection of Bordeaux older vintages, most notably: 6 bottles of Chateau Margaux 1990 (3000/3200 euros); 2 bottles of Château Latour 1996 (800/900 euros); 1 bottle of Chateau Margaux 1995 (450/550 euros); 6 bottles of Chateau d’Yquem 1993 (800/1000 euros); 1 bottle of Chateau Margaux 1982 (500/600 euros); 2 bottles of Château Mouton Rothschild 1970 and 2 of 1968 (600/700 euros); 6 bottles of Chateau Latour 1967 (800/1000 euros); 4 bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1966 (600/800 euros); 12 bottles of Chateau Margaux 1966 (1200/1400 euros); 6 bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1964 (800/1000 euros); 6 bottles of Chateau Haut Brion 1961 (2000/2500 euros); 3 bottles of Chateau Margaux 1959 (1000/1500 euros); 1 bottle of Château d’Yquem 1955 (300/400 euros); 1 magnum of Chateau Calon-Segur 1945 (300/400 euros); and, finally, the star of the American film “Sideways” 6 bottles of Chateau Cheval Blanc 1961 (3600/4000 euros), and one lot with three bottles of Chateau Cheval Blanc 1961 (1800/2000 euros).
