STRESSED AND A FEW POUNDS HEAVIER AFTER THE HOLIDAYS? REGENERATE WITH A BIT OF WINE THERAPY: ON JANUARY 18 AT CASTELFRANCI IN IRPINIA A DAY WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF THE NECTAR OF THE GODS

If the numerous holiday festivities have left you exhausted and a few pounds heavier then you may want head to Castelfranci in Irpinia on January 18th for the “Stati Generali della Vinoterapia”, or the wine therapy kermes. It will be a day dedicated to the little known health benefits of the nectar of the gods.

The use of wine therapy, which began several years ago in France, is growing from an obscure phenomenon for just a privileged few to a much more accessible therapy in Italy. This phenomenon has inspired a growing number of tourists interested in wine and its curative powers as well as increasing studies of wine’s curative possibilities and the further development of tourism connected with this sector.
It has already become clear, however, that wine’s benefits do not come only from the pleasure of drinking it. As doctors have insisted for years now, it is also good for one’s health, aiding circulation and preventing heart disease due to compounds like polyphenols, which are present in grape skins, as well as its disinfecting, detoxifying and purifying properties.
And drinking it has the added bonus of enjoying a tradition and its capacity to make one meditate on the beauty of its territory. Wine therapy is focused on combining wine’s quality and tradition with health and beauty, giving even more value to the bounty from this land.
The “Stati generali della Vinoterapia” offers, in fact, a moment of reflection on this phenomenon that is now taking off. Some of the encounters during the event: “Wellness Valley in Campania”; “Wine from hedonism to science”; “Reviews and international research on wine therapy”, to name just a few.

To conclude the event a guided wine tasting will be held in the wineries of Borgo. “The wineries explained by the chefs of Borgo” will be a tour of wine and food among the vineyards and the recipes of the territory after the main contributors to the new sector have been awarded. Three prizes will be awarded for “Wine therapy and health”, “Wine therapy and well-being”, and “Wine therapy, wine and well-being tourism connected to the development and promotion of the territory”.

The judges will be, among others, Antonella di Lazzaro, researcher at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in Rome, David Bickers, Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University in New York, Arianna Kim, Assistant Professor Department of Dermatology at Columbia University, Domenico De Masi, professor of Sociology of Work at “La Sapienza” university in Rome, Silvio Barbero, National Secretary of Slow Food, Salvatore Farace, Professor of Economy and Development at the University of Salerno, Mario Santangelo, Director of the National Tumor Institute “Pascale” in Naples, Veronica Maya, Presenter of “Linea Verde” on Rai 1 television.
