THE ENGLISH ARTIST, DAVID HOCKNEY, CONTINUING THE FRENCH MAISON’S TRADITION, HAS DESIGNED THE LABEL "IN TRIBUTE TO PHILIPPINE" FOR CHATEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD VINTAGE 2014, RESERVING A PLACE IN HISTORY TO BARONESS PHILIPPINE DE ROTHSCHILD, DIED IN 2014

David Hockney is one of the most influential British artists of all time and leading contributor to British pop art. He has designed the 2014 vintage of "grand vin" of Château Mouton Rothschild label, continuing the long and prestigious tradition. The vintage will be forever fixed in the history of the great Château the Bordeaux, upon the death of its owner, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, a legend in Bordeaux, France wine making and the entire international wine world. She was also a true, modern "patron" of art and friend of many artists, like David Hockney, as "Decanter" (www.decanter.com) has reported. The title of his label is "In tribute to Philippine", depicting two glasses, one empty and one full, surrounded by rays of light to signify the excitement and wonder that the feverish anticipation of the birth of a great wine arouses.
The South Korean artist, Lee Ufan, designed the 2013 label, focusing mainly on simplicity with a touch of purple and red over the Château logo. Hockney continues one of the richest collections of authored labels, which started in 1924, when one of Jean Carlu’s works was put on Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines.
The Baron, father of Philippine, continued the tradition (every year since 1945), of labels designed by prestigious artists of the caliber of Jean Cocteau, Georges Braque, Salvador Dali, Walter Matta, Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Balthus and many others. Hockney is the fifth British artist to make a label for Mouton following Lucien Freud (2006), Francis Bacon (1990) and Henry Moore (1964) as well as none other than Prince Charles himself (2004), while in 1977 the label was dedicated to the Queen Mother Elizabeth who that year had stayed in the French Château.
