A new world record was made recently in the beautiful Piazza del Duomo in Spoleto, Italy. During the “All Night Wine” event within the “Vini nel mondo” (Wines of the World) festival, which was animated by musicians like Max Gazzè and actress and winemaker Stefania Sandrelli, the “biggest” toast in the world was made with a “super-sized” crystal wine glass of spumante. The glass was designed by the Venetian artist Massimo Leonardon and had a total capacity of 16.5 liters, the equivalent of 11 magnums, and a height of 2.05 meters. It was filled with the famous sweet Italian bubbly, Asti DOCG, which has re-launched itself with great success in recent years.
The record-breaking toast was verified by Carlos Martinez, the Spanish judge for Guinness World Records.
Alessandro Casali, patron of “Vini nel mondo” (one of the most important events dedicated to wine in Italy), commented to WineNews: “it is a beautiful marketing operation for Italy; I am happy to have done it at “Vini nel mondo”, an event that, in just three years, has become one of the most successful high quality wine events in Italy”.
