THE ITALIAN WINE UNION DEFENDS ITS PRODUCTS: “IN ITALY, CONTROLS WORK”, BUT THERE MUST BE A REFLECTION ON, “THE RPESENCE ON THE MARKET OF PRODUCTS SOLD AT UNJUSTIFIABLE PRICES”, AND A WAY TO, “NOT COMPROMISE A SERIOUS SECTOR WITH A GOOD IMAGE”

“In Italy, the control systems that guarantee the maximum level of the authenticity of our wine products to safeguard the consumer work, and they work well. Evidence of this is the actions taken to confiscate suspected adulterated wine, throughout the national territory, and with great efficiency by law enforcement officials”. This was the pronouncement made recently by the Italian Wine Union (UIV), one of the most important organizations that represent the interests of wine producers. It also stated that it “hopes the investigations bring light to those who are responsible, on the real fraudulent entities and that this is a criminal act that must be punished”.

UIV also added that “though it happened [the accusation that several Italian winemakers have adulterated their wines], it cannot compromise a serious and reliable productive sector that represents a fundamental voice for our food earnings and is a wealth for the economic and social fabric of Italy”,
In conclusion the Italian Wine Union asked to make, “an attentive general reflection on the presence of products on the market sold at decidedly unjustifiable prices when considering the notable increases in the price of grapes and the production that were registered during the last harvest.
Knowing that the safeguarding of the consumer and the qualitative and health guarantee for food products are an inalienable condition for entrepreneurial activities, the Italian Wine Union invests enormous resources each year in specific collaborations with laboratories at universities, as well as with those already sufficiently experimented by the most qualified trade operators”.
