Campari is the number one “wine & spirits” in Italy. This is the recent confirmation by a Mediobanca study, which recently presented its annual classification of the most important Italian companies.
The 42nd edition of the Mediobanca classification has ranked companies by earnings for 2006, and includes 3,685 companies, of which 1,527 are industrial or service companies.
For the FBA section (those companies that produce and sell alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages), there are about 40 names.
And, at the top of the list is Campari, which is also one of the most important beverage producers in the world (the global list is headed by Diageo, which recently ceded Cinzano to Campari, and by Pernod Ricard, which is present in Piedmont with the Distilleria Ramazzotti di Canelli). In second place, is the mineral water giant, San Pellegrino; third place was taken by the world’s number one soda producer, Coca-Cola; fourth by Dutch beer producer Heineken, followed by San Benedetto (water) and Peroni (beer).
Within the top ten on the list there are three wine producers: Martini & Rossi-Bacardi, Caviro, and Gruppo Italiano Vini. On the rest of the classification, there are also important names of Italian cooperatives like Cavit, Mezzacorona, and Cantina di Soave, as well as the top private winemaking companies Antinori, Gancia, Fratelli Martini, Zonin and Ruffino.
