EU COMMISSIONER FOR AGRICULTURE MARIANN FISCHER BOEL: “BOLD REFORMS ARE NEEDED, THE GOAL IS NOT TO CUT THE BUDGET BUT TO USE RESOURCES BETTER”

The wine sector needs a “bold” reform to favor solid development. The comments made recently by EU Agriculture Commissioner, Mariann Fischer Boel, who wanted to emphasize that the goal of reforms are not to “save financial resources”, but to use them in a more intelligent way.

The Commission is working towards “spending the same budget” that currently exists (about 1.2-1.3 billion euros per year) but “in a more intelligent way”, according to Fischer Boel at a discussion in Toledo, Spain.

Boel, who will be presenting a draft of the reform on June 21, has also noted that she will be surveying the opinions other state members before the deadline.
