THE FIRST WINE MADE FROM GENETICALLY MODIFIED PLANTS ARRIVES FROM CHINA. IT’S RICHER IN RESERVATROL, THE ELEMENT THAT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF WINE

Chinese researcher Yuejin Wang, together with collaborators at the Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University di Yangling in the Chinese province of Shaanxi, have created a wine in their laboratories that has greater health benefits. At least this is what has been reported by “New Scientist”.

The Chinese researchers have genetically modified a normal grapevine with a gene (stilbene synthase) that comes from a wild Chinese variety of grape and which has six times higher amounts of reservatrol (the substance that is responsible for red wine’s beneficial effects on health) than other grapes.
