WINENEWS RUMORS WERE RIGHT… THE OFFICIAL LIST OF TOP WINES ACCORDING TO THE TOP ITALIAN WINE GUIDE VINI D’ITALIA (GAMBERO ROSSO-SLOW FOOD) HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED, THE WINERY OF THE YEAR GOES TO GAJA. ENOLOGIST OF THE YEAR TO MATTIA VEZZOLA (BELLAVISTA)

The predictions that were made by www.winenews.it were right. Here is the official list of the top wines chosen by Italy’s most important wine guide “Vini d’Italia”:
Sparkling Wines: Franciacorta Collezione Esclusiva '99 - Cavalleri
White Wine: Collio Tocai Friulano '06 - Raccaro Red Wine: Faro '05 - Palari
Sweet Wine: Moscato Passito di Pantelleria Ben Ryé '06 - Donnafugata
Winery of the Year: Gaja
Enologist of the Year: Mattia Vezzola
New Winery: Ca' Orologio
Most Convenient Wine: Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Praesulis '06 -
Gumphof Winemaker of the Year: Adriano e Stefano Dezi
Most Sustainable Winemaker: Saverio Petrilli (Tenuta di Valgiano)
These special recognitions by the “Vini d’Italia” guide (Gambero Rosso-Slow Food editors) began in 1999, though, for the first few years the only prize awarded was “Best Wine of the Year”. Over the years, the other categories have been added, with “Most Sustainable Winemaker” being the latest addition. This list has been published on the Slow Food web site in anticipation of the publication of the Tre Bicchieri wine awards.
